Eevert Toivonen “Annikki” Birch Wardrobe for Asko-Avonius, Finland, 1931–1935
A rare Finnish Art Deco wardrobe from the celebrated “Annikki” bedroom suite, designed by Eevert Toivonen for Asko-Avonius and produced between 1931 and 1935. Crafted from beautifully figured birch veneer, the wardrobe showcases the elegant proportions and refined craftsmanship characteristic of early Finnish modern design. The striking flame birch grain is complemented by contrasting dark ebonized details along the cornice and base, while delicate carved decorative motifs on the doors lend the piece a subtle decorative elegance. The central mirrored door enhances both functionality and visual balance, reflecting the practical sophistication of Scandinavian furniture from the period. Raised on tapered legs, the wardrobe has a light architectural presence despite its generous storage capacity. Inside, the wardrobe provides ample space for clothing and household storage, making it as practical today as when it was originally produced. As part of the sought-after Annikki series, it represents an important chapter in Finnish furniture history and is a highly collectible example of pre-war Finnish Art Deco. The wardrobe remains in very good vintage condition with a beautiful age-related patina. Minor signs of wear are consistent with its age and careful use. Matching beds from the original Annikki bedroom suite are also available separately. The opportunity to acquire multiple pieces from this rare Finnish Art Deco collection is increasingly uncommon, making this an exceptional offering for collectors and interior designers alike.
Dimentions:
Width: 49 in (125 cm) Depth: 20 in (51 cm) Height: 71 in (180 cm)
Condition: Very good vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use. Includes one original key. The left and center door locks function properly with the original key. The right door lock has been replaced, and there is no suitable key for it.
